Why Watermark a PDF
A simple stamp can label a draft, protect a copy, or brand a finished document. PrintFriendly makes it a couple of clicks.
Mark Drafts, Copies, and Confidential Pages
A watermark is the fastest way to label a document for its audience. Stamp Draft on a contract that is still being reviewed, Copy on a duplicate sent for reference, or Confidential on pages that should stay inside a team. The mark sits on every page so nobody has to guess which version they are reading.
Choose the wording, the size, and the angle that fit the document. Lower the opacity to keep the original text readable, or turn it up to make the stamp impossible to miss. Apply the watermark to the whole PDF or just the pages that need it. The result is a finished file that explains itself the moment somebody opens it.
Text or Image, You Pick
Type a few words and PrintFriendly turns them into a centred stamp on each page. Switch to image mode and upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG to use a company logo, a signature, or any graphic you already trust. The two modes share the same opacity, rotation, and page range controls, so the watermark behaves the same way no matter which one you choose.
Layer the watermark over the page when it needs to read like a label, or tuck it under the page content when it should sit in the background like classic paper stationery. Everything happens in your browser. There is nothing to install, no plugin to update, and no desktop software to licence.
How to Add a Watermark to a PDF
Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click to choose a file from your computer. The file uploads over an encrypted connection straight to our processing servers.
Pick text or image mode in the side panel, then dial in the wording, colour, font size, opacity, rotation, and which pages should carry the stamp. The preview updates as you go so you can see what the finished page will look like.
Click Add Watermark. PrintFriendly stamps every selected page and hands you a download link for the finished PDF. The processed file is removed from our servers shortly after you save it.
Why Use PrintFriendly to Watermark Your PDFs
Watermarking is one of those jobs where the controls matter as much as the result. PrintFriendly gives you fine-grained settings for text, colour, opacity, rotation, and page selection, then runs the actual stamping on our servers so even big PDFs finish quickly.
Fast and Polished
Watermarks render server-side using the same engine that powers our other PDF tools. Long documents finish in seconds, the original layout stays intact, and the stamp lands in the same place on every page. The output is a real PDF, not a screenshot.
Safe and Private
Uploads travel over HTTPS and each file is processed in an isolated job. Once your watermarked PDF has been downloaded, the processed file is removed from our servers. We do not review, share, or train on your content.
Text and Image Stamps
Type a phrase like Draft or Confidential to stamp every page, or upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG to use a logo, signature, or graphic you already have. Both modes share the same opacity, rotation, and page range controls, so switching between them feels seamless.
Works Anywhere
Watermarking runs on our servers, not your laptop, so the tool works the same on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, iPad, and Android. There is no plugin, no driver, and no minimum system requirement beyond a modern browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Check out these commonly asked questions and answers about our service. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions.
What kinds of watermarks can I add?
Two kinds. A text watermark stamps a word or short phrase like Draft, Copy, or Confidential across every page you select. An image watermark uses a PNG, JPG, or SVG you upload, which is useful for logos, signatures, or graphics you already trust. Can I control which pages get the watermark?
Yes. Leave the page range blank to stamp every page, or use Apryse range syntax to pick specific pages. For example, 1,4-7 stamps page 1 and pages 4 through 7.Will the watermark cover up the page text?
It depends on how you set it up. The opacity slider goes from barely visible to fully solid, and the layer toggle lets you place the stamp over the page or behind it. Most people pick a low opacity for confidential or draft labels so the page underneath still reads normally. Is the original PDF changed?
No. The original file you upload is not modified. PrintFriendly produces a new, watermarked PDF for you to download. The processed file is removed from our servers shortly after you save it.Are my files safe?
Yes. Uploads travel over encrypted HTTPS connections and each file is processed in an isolated job. We remove the processed file from our servers shortly after you download it. We do not review or keep your documents. Is there a file size limit?
PDFs up to 100 MB are supported. Watermark images need to be under 5 MB. Larger documents take a little longer because every page is stamped individually.
